You bought a projector:
What else do you need?

Lots of clubs have purchased data projectors that allow you to hook up a laptop for presentations.
After you purchase that laptop, there are likely a few other things you’ll need.

  1. Long Cable
I recommend that you purchase a 15 foot or longer VGA data cable. This allows you to move the projector further back from the screen and still keep the presenter up front. I have found the best deals online at http://www.cyberguys.com. Expect to pay about $20 or so. You can buy cables up to 50 feet long if needed.

  2. Projector Stand
Most often, the projector is placed in the center aisle of the room. A small projector table is ideal as it does not take up a lot of room. There are various portable stands available for about $100. Check out Dalite stands at http://www.dalite.com and Adorama’s at http://www.adorama.com/AVPS.html.

  3. Video Switcher
If you will ever have two presenters with two laptops presenting, you’ll want to get a VGA Switch Box. These are under $20. You’ll also need some extra VGA cables. Again, Cyberguys has great pricing. Go to http://www.cyberguys.com.

  4. Security Device
Projectors are expensive, so don’t let yours walk away! All projectors have a Kensington-compatible security cable slot. You can purchase a special cable and lock that allows you secure your projector or a notebook computer. I like the Kensington-brand cables (they invented them!). You can purchase all of the items above for under $200, so make a motion at your next society board meeting.
